Tini Younger's second cookbook teaches technique, not just recipes

The TikTok chef who broke out on Next Level Chef publishes Today We Are Cooking . . . this week, built around 100-plus recipes meant to teach method over memorisation.

Tini Younger's second cookbook, Today We Are Cooking . . . : Recipes That Teach You to Think Like a Chef, reaches shelves this week from Clarkson Potter. The 272-page hardback is built around more than 100 recipes, each framed to explain a technique rather than just list steps.

Younger, born Tineke Younger in Maryland, trained at Frederick Community College's Hospitality, Culinary and Tourism Institute and worked restaurant kitchens, including The Wine Kitchen, before any of it went online.

Her public career started with virality rather than a dining room. A fried chicken sandwich video crossed 25 million views, and a mac and cheese recipe became the clip that made her a recognisable name in food content, well before television came calling.

A recipe book that tries to teach a method outlives the trend that sold it.

Gordon Ramsay's Fox competition Next Level Chef gave her the next stage. Younger competed on season two, cooking under Richard Blais's team, and finished eighth of eighteen contestants. She returned as a guest for season three, and later hosted a show on Ramsay's Bite Originals YouTube channel.

A first book, Cooking for My Boyfriend, followed in 2023. The new title drops the narrower premise for something closer to a teaching manual: sauces, knife work, and the reasoning behind a method, aimed at a home cook who wants fewer rigid recipes and more transferable skill.

From viral clips to a teaching cookbook

That shift matters for a creator whose career was built on short-form video, a format that rewards a finished dish over an explained one. A cookbook organised around technique is a different proposition: it asks the reader to come back after the first recipe works, not just to replicate a single viral result.

Younger was named to Forbes' 30 Under 30 and to Create & Cultivate's CC100 2026 list this year, recognition that has tracked her move from internet personality to working chef and author in the space of three years.

A crowded shelf for creator cookbooks

Today We Are Cooking . . . lands in a publishing category now thick with books from chefs publishing their own method, from Gianluca Gorini's Cucina Radicale to any number of creator-built backlists. The hardback is priced at $36, with an ebook edition also available, and Younger is scheduled to appear at a book event in Frederick, Maryland, this week. Whether the technique-first pitch sets the book apart from the rest of that shelf will depend on what readers actually cook from it, not the premise alone.
