Bouillon A closes: Christophe Aribert shuts his Grenoble bouillon

The low-price restaurant opened on the Presqu'île in May 2022. Its management blames a struggling district and a hostile climate for restaurants; Maison Aribert in Uriage stays open.

Bouillon A closes for good in Grenoble: the bouillon-style restaurant that two-Michelin-starred chef Christophe Aribert opened on the city's Presqu'île in May 2022 has shut after four years, its management announced on social media on Tuesday 27 October. The team called carrying on "untenable", Grenoble Mag and ICI reported.

According to ICI, a "Locaux disponibles" (premises available) sign has replaced the board that used to carry the daily menu. Neither outlet gave a date for the last service or the number of staff affected. The management thanked employees who, in its words, kept the restaurant running with energy and professionalism until the final service.

The restaurant sat between the Minatec campus and the CEA research centre and, at launch, could serve 250 to 300 customers a day, on weekdays and at weekends, Grenoble Mag reported. The idea, as the trade title L'Hôtellerie Restauration put it in June, was a reinterpretation of the Parisian bouillons: generous, popular cooking from local products at affordable prices.

A bouillon lives on volume, and volume needs a neighbourhood that still draws people in.

Why Bouillon A closes now

The management's message put the district first. It described the Presqu'île business zone as "struggling" and less attractive than before, and cited an economic climate it called particularly unfavourable for restaurants, according to ICI. Its business model, the message said, could no longer cope with current constraints.

"Passion and high standards are not always enough in the face of harsher economic realities," the team wrote, as quoted by Grenoble Mag, adding that the concept was right, the positioning relevant and the promise kept. Competition had also moved closer: the same outlet noted that the Italian restaurant Sana opened nearby in June 2025 and that another, Montigami, opened in recent weeks in the People Connect building opposite.

What Christophe Aribert keeps in Grenoble

The closure does not affect Maison Aribert, the chef's two-starred restaurant in Uriage-les-Bains, which continues to operate, Grenoble Mag said. In the city itself, he opened Le Comptoir de la Maison Aribert on 1 June 2026 in the former Sainte-Cécile convent, home of the publisher Glénat. It replaced Les Jardins de Sainte-Cécile, which closed in July 2025 after twelve years, according to L'Hôtellerie Restauration, and offers a weekday lunch menu at €29 or €37. A fine-food shop joined it at the start of the school year, Grenoble Mag reported.

Bouillon A closes in a year in which other French chefs have also been rethinking their formats: in Paris, Bruno Verjus closed Table and declared fine dining dead. On the Presqu'île, no new tenant for the premises has been announced.
