Casa Drummond, Bodega Trivento's restored 1940 house in Luján de Cuyo, is Mendoza's Global Winner in the 2027 Best Of Wine Tourism awards, announced on 22 October in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network.

The title went to eleven businesses, one for each member capital, at a gala dinner at Toitoi, the Hawke's Bay Arts and Events Centre, which closed the network's 26th annual conference. According to the network, this cycle drew 597 entries, from which 77 regional winners went forward.

Casa Drummond got there by taking regional gold in Mendoza's Architecture and Landscape category earlier this year, in a local round that drew more than 86 applications, according to the provincial government.

Trivento's most decorated asset this year is not a wine but a house built in 1940.

What Casa Drummond offers visitors

The property sits in Mayor Drummond, in the Luján de Cuyo department just south of Mendoza city, with vineyards and the Andes in view. Its centrepiece is a California neocolonial residence built in 1940 to a design by architects Mario Giambelli and Luis Mario Brisighelli, surrounded by historic gardens and a working winery that makes Trivento's top wines, including a Malbec with D.O.C. status.

Trivento, owned by Chile's Concha y Toro, bought the site in 2021 together with the former Bodega Baldini winery. Chief executive Marcos Jofré put the 2021-2022 plan, covering the purchase, the restoration of the house and the winery upgrade, at more than US$11 million, Los Andes reported at the time. The wine tourism area alone took over US$800,000, according to the provincial government.

Visitors get guided tours, tastings and food-and-wine experiences built around Mendoza's terroirs.

Casa Drummond joins ten other global winners

The other winners are Paulett Wines in Clare Valley (Adelaide), Maga Foundation by Muriel Wines (Bilbao-Rioja), Château Larrivet Haut-Brion in Pessac-Léognan (Bordeaux), Black Barn Vineyards (Hawke's Bay), Le Chemin des Capites by Autour du Vin (Lausanne), Wein vom Roten Hang in Nierstein (Mainz-Rheinhessen), Quinta da Vacaria in the Douro (Porto), Beaulieu Vineyard (Napa Valley), Palacio Astoreca (Valparaíso-Casablanca) and Monteleone21 in Valpolicella (Verona). The Spanish entry came out of the regional round in which Rioja named its seven winners.

“Every business recognised tonight has given a visitor a reason to stay longer and come back,” said network president Jo Collins. Jofré told 617 News that the prize carries a very special meaning and that the team now has the responsibility of projecting it to the world.

The award closes a year that began with a cool, wet and uneven 2026 harvest in Mendoza. For a company that once sold more than a million cases of its Reserve line in a single season, the asset now winning international prizes is an 86-year-old house.
