Panda & Sons wins the world's best cocktail menu award

The Edinburgh speakeasy's Transcend menu beat the field at The World's 50 Best Bars 2026 in Milan, as three other UK bars broke into the main list.

Panda & Sons, an Edinburgh bar hidden behind a fake barbershop front, has won the Siete Misterios Best Cocktail Menu Award 2026 for its menu Transcend, beating entries from across the world at The World's 50 Best Bars ceremony in Milan.

The result was announced on 7 October at an awards night that crowned Hong Kong's Bar Leone as the World's Best Bar for a second consecutive year, sponsored by Perrier, and confirmed the rest of the World's 50 Best Bars 2026 list. Panda & Sons itself sits outside the main top 50, ranked 72nd in the extended 51-100 list, but the menu prize is judged as a separate category open to any entrant.

The win lands two days after Norway's Nikolai Haram Svorte took the Best Sommelier of the World title, giving the drinks trade two headline crowns inside the same week.

A barbershop door and years of testing beat a louder opening every time.

A menu built on research, not novelty

Transcend is the product of years of testing rather than a single season's ideas, according to the awards organisers, who credited the bar's sub-zero serving techniques and the way the list ties each drink back to a theme. Judges score entries on design and layout, storytelling, innovation, the range of drinks on offer and how clearly the menu communicates the bar's identity.

Entry is free: bars submit a digital copy of the menu with a 500-word statement and supporting images. The same award has a North American edition, run separately; Washington DC's Allegory won it in April 2026, a second win after an earlier menu, Down the Rabbit Hole, took the prize in 2023.

Three more UK bars make the cut

The UK placed three further venues in the main list. Connaught Bar in London held 8th place, Satan's Whiskers came in at 29th, and Waltz entered the list for the first time at 32nd. All three are in London, leaving Panda & Sons as the only Scottish name across both the main ranking and the extended one.

Europe still accounts for 18 of the top 50 bars overall, but the balance within the continent has shifted. Paris, Hong Kong and New York tied for the most-represented city this year with four bars apiece, and organisers noted that Paris has overtaken London as Europe's strongest showing for the first time.

The next cycle's entries open in the new year, and Panda & Sons has not said whether it will submit Transcend again or build a new list. For a menu that took years to assemble, a quick follow-up seems unlikely.
