Garima Arora opens a modern Indian kitchen in Kuala Lumpur
The Bangkok-based chef is bringing a new restaurant to the Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur, opening 30 October, alongside a second dining room from Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

Garima Arora Kuala Lumpur becomes one of the headline dining stories of the Waldorf Astoria's Malaysian debut, with the chef opening a modern Indian restaurant inside the hotel when it welcomes guests on 30 October.
Arora runs Gaa in Bangkok, the two-Michelin-starred restaurant that made her the first Indian woman to lead a Michelin-starred kitchen. Reports in March named her Kuala Lumpur project Yaari, Hindi for "friendship," though Hilton's own announcements describe the venture only as a dining collaboration without confirming the restaurant's final name.
She shares the hotel's dining roster with Jean-Georges Vongerichten, whose restaurant there carries his own name, JG KL. Between them, the two chefs anchor a seven-venue dining programme built to distinguish the property from the dozen-plus luxury hotels already competing for Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triangle.
A two-star pedigree now opens its second kitchen before the first review has even been written.
A 268-suite debut on Jalan Raja Chulan
The hotel occupies 73 Jalan Raja Chulan in Bukit Bintang, within walking distance of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and the Petronas Twin Towers. All 268 rooms are suites, ranging from 80 square metres up to the 745-square-metre Waldorf Astoria Suite, each with floor-to-ceiling skyline views.
It marks the Waldorf Astoria brand's first hotel in Malaysia. General manager Etienne Dalançon has described the property as reviving a landmark site for a new generation of luxury travellers, built around a hospitality philosophy the hotel calls Layan Tetamu, rooted in Malaysian ideas of sincerity and personalised service.
Why Kuala Lumpur, why now
Arora's move follows a broader pattern of chefs with Michelin-starred home bases opening satellite restaurants in Southeast Asian hotels rather than their own cities, a model that has already shaped dining rooms from Bangkok's festival circuit outward. For Kuala Lumpur, it means a modern Indian menu arriving with the pedigree of a two-star kitchen attached, before a single dish has been reviewed locally.
Reservations for the hotel are open now, with bookings for suites covering stays from January 2027. Dining reservations have not yet opened separately.
