Amazon Prime Uber Eats deal replaces Grubhub in the US

Prime members can now order from Uber Eats inside Amazon's app with no delivery fee above $25, ending the Grubhub+ perk. Commission terms for restaurants have not been disclosed.

Amazon Prime Uber Eats orders of $25 or more now carry no delivery fee in the United States: since 5 November, Prime members can order from Uber Eats inside Amazon's website and app, and the Grubhub+ perk Amazon had offered since 2022 has been withdrawn.

Members sign in with their Amazon account at amazon.com/ubereats or in the Amazon Shopping app, pay with the methods already stored on Amazon and need neither the Uber Eats app nor an Uber account, according to Amazon and Uber. The benefit also covers the discounted Prime for Young Adults and Prime Access tiers and can be shared with one other adult through Amazon Family.

For the first 14 days, members get $20 off each of their first two orders of $25 or more, and Prime Visa cardholders earn 5% back on Uber Eats orders until 5 December. Amazon estimates the Amazon Prime Uber Eats benefit could save a member more than $175 a year against ordering on Uber Eats without Uber One, based on August 2026 order data.

Amazon keeps the customer and the checkout; restaurants still cook for Uber's network.

The end of the Grubhub+ perk at Amazon

The switch closes the arrangement Amazon struck with Grubhub in 2022, which gave Prime members free access to Grubhub+. Amazon's last published terms set the free-delivery threshold for that perk at $12, according to Stock Titan, so the new minimum is more than double. Wonder, which owns Grubhub, said the two companies agreed to end the deal, Nation's Restaurant News reported; members already enrolled keep Grubhub+ until 31 December 2027.

Amazon has tried the category before: it shut its own Amazon Restaurants service in 2019 and returned through Grubhub three years later.

What Amazon Prime Uber Eats means for restaurants

Uber puts the network at hundreds of thousands of restaurants in nearly 10,000 cities and towns. The release names Chipotle, Wingstop and Sweetgreen alongside independents such as Aga's Restaurant in Houston and Papalote Mexican Grill in San Francisco. Andrew Macdonald, Uber's president and chief operating officer, said the aim is to connect Uber's “restaurant community” with Prime customers.

For operators, the change is a new storefront rather than a new contract. Orders placed through Amazon Prime Uber Eats run on Uber's network, so restaurants already listed there receive them through their existing setup. Neither company has said whether commission rates on those orders differ from standard Uber Eats terms, and neither has published a volume forecast. Restaurants that sell only through Grubhub lose the shortcut that sent Prime members their way. Elsewhere, delivery lifted UK restaurant groups' at-home sales 9.6% in August.

The Prime Visa cashback ends on 5 December, the first marker of whether Amazon brings Uber Eats new orders or only moves existing ones.
