Nobu San Juan: Nobu plans a 50-room hotel in Puerto Rico
The hotel, developed with the investor KTT, will have a Nobu restaurant at street level and a rooftop bar. The release gives a year, 2028, but no address, chef or menu.
Nobu San Juan will be a 50-room hotel with a Nobu restaurant at street level and the brand's first property in Puerto Rico, Nobu Hospitality announced from New York on Wednesday 30 September. The opening is scheduled for 2028.
The official name is Nobu Hotel and Restaurant San Juan. According to the release distributed by PR Newswire, the building will have a signature Nobu restaurant and bar on the ground floor and a lounge and bar on the roof. The partner is KTT, whose managing partner, Joakim Lehmkuhl, calls the project "the kind of investment we believe the city deserves".
Trevor Horwell, chief executive of Nobu Hospitality, said the hotel lets the group "become part of one of the region's most storied neighborhoods". The text also promises to blend "the energy of the old city" with the calm of other Nobu properties, which points to the historic quarter. It names no street, no building and no architect.
A room count and a year are known; the address, the chef and the menu are not.
What the Nobu San Juan release leaves out
Read against the text, the announcement is short on the details a diner or an investor would look for. There is no chef, no menu, no seat count for the restaurant, no room rate and no budget. It does not say whether the hotel will occupy a restored colonial building or a new one, nor how large KTT's stake is. What it commits to is a size, a year and a layout: 50 rooms, 2028, restaurant downstairs and bar upstairs.
Fifty rooms is a small hotel for the island. The Four Seasons Resort and Residences Puerto Rico, which opened under that name in November 2025 about half an hour from the San Juan airport, has 139, according to its own announcement on Hospitality Net. With its restaurant on the street rather than behind a resort gate, Nobu San Juan is built around the dining room, which is how the brand began.
Nobu's Caribbean push after Barbuda
San Juan is the second Caribbean project Nobu has announced this year. In February the group presented Nobu Beach Inn in Barbuda, with 36 bedrooms spread over 17 villas plus 25 beachfront residences, due to open in late 2026. Its corporate text describes operations on five continents.
Restaurant names travelling inside hotels is a pattern this year, from Zuma's first California room in a San Diego hotel to Niko Romito's Da Niko inside the Bulgari Hotel Milan. Until an address, a chef and a menu are published, Nobu San Juan is a name, a room count and a date two years away.
