Heaven Hill's 20th Parker's Heritage bourbon lands at $199.99
The 14-year-old, barrel-proof release uses rye backset in the mash and closes two decades of a collection built to honour the late master distiller Parker Beam.
Heaven Hill has released the 20th edition of its Parker's Heritage Collection, a 14-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon made with rye backset and bottled at barrel proof.
The whiskey comes from 100 barrels distilled between October 2011 and January 2012, then aged for 14 years across four rickhouses and multiple warehouse floors. It is bottled non-chill filtered at 118 proof, from Heaven Hill's standard bourbon mashbill of 78% corn, 10% rye and 12% malted barley.
Rye backset, the acidic liquid left over from a previous distillation run, is added back into the mash as part of the sour mash process. Heaven Hill has used it before in other releases, but rarely at this age and proof together, which pushes the bourbon toward a drier, more tannic profile than younger Parker's Heritage bottlings.
Twenty editions in, and the series still experiments rather than repeats.
Twenty years honouring one distiller
The Parker's Heritage Collection began as an annual tribute to Parker Beam, Heaven Hill's master distiller emeritus, who died in 2017 after four decades on the stills. Each edition experiments with a different mash bill, finish or proof point rather than repeating a house recipe, which is what has kept the series relevant to collectors two decades in.
A 750ml bottle carries a suggested retail price of $199.99. National distribution is limited, with select international allocations following behind the US release.
Bourbon's own version of a small vintage
Barrel-proof, limited editions like this one sell into a bourbon market where allocation, not price, is usually the real constraint: distilleries plan single-barrel and small-batch releases years ahead of the bottling date, tying up warehouse space long before demand is known. Death & Co's fifth bar just opened in Seattle, part of a broader US bar expansion that keeps pulling on the same pool of allocated bourbon. The US Barista Championship opens registration this month too, a reminder that bars and cafés are competing for staff and attention in the same tight hospitality market.
Heaven Hill has not said what the 21st edition, due next year, will draw on.
