Tre Bicchieri 2027 Veneto: Prosecco hills gain, Amarone holds
Gambero Rosso's regional preview gives the Veneto two more top awards than a year ago, with gains in the Prosecco hills and fewer Valpolicella reds on the list.
The Tre Bicchieri 2027 Veneto list names 49 wines, two more than last year, Gambero Rosso announced on 23 September. Amarone della Valpolicella again takes 13 of the top awards, while the Prosecco Superiore hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene rise from eight to eleven.
Tre Bicchieri, "three glasses", is the highest rating in Vini d'Italia, the annual wine guide published by Gambero Rosso. The Rome-based publisher is releasing the 2027 results region by region ahead of the full guide; the Veneto joins Sicily, Calabria, Basilicata, Umbria and Liguria. The size of the region explains the length of the list. According to Gambero Rosso, about 20,000 hectares are planted for Prosecco DOC and DOCG, 7,000 for Soave and 8,000 for the reds of Valpolicella.
Amarone holds its ground; the list grew in the Prosecco hills and their single-site Rive.
Where the Tre Bicchieri 2027 Veneto awards went
Amarone keeps its weight: 13 awards, the same as in the 2026 edition, from producers including Allegrini, Bertani, Speri, Tommasi Viticoltori and Pasqua. The oldest vintages on the whole list are three 2017 Amarones, from Bertani, Secondo Marco and Gerardo Cesari. Valpolicella itself shrinks from four awards to one, Tenuta Sant'Antonio's Nanfrè 2025.
The sparkling hills move the other way. Eleven Prosecco Superiore wines are listed, up from eight a year ago: ten from Conegliano Valdobbiadene or Valdobbiadene, nine of them from single-hillside "Rive" sites, plus a Cartizze from Villa Sandi. Soave holds at seven, with Pieropan, Suavia, I Campi and Graziano Prà among the names, and the Lake Garda side contributes two Custoza, two Bardolino wines and a Lugana.
Most of the list is young wine: 25 of the 49 carry the 2024 or 2025 vintage.
Freshness over power in the guide's verdict
Gambero Rosso's tasters describe a region chasing "more slender profiles, less centred on power", obtained without forcing the wines and by working with grape varieties that have grown there for centuries. The guide points to corvina in Bardolino and Valpolicella, garganega in Soave and durella, the base of the Lessini Durello sparkling wines.
The results land while the 2026 grapes are still coming in, including in the hills covered in our Prosecco harvest report from Conegliano Valdobbiadene. In July, Assoenologi, Unione Italiana Vini and Ismea said they would publish national production figures only after the harvest, citing weather too variable to forecast. The next test for Veneto producers comes when those 2026 wines reach the guide's tasting tables.
