Schofield's Bar London opens in Covent Garden

The Manchester cocktail bar that topped the UK's Top 50 list in 2024 takes its menu south to the former Chick 'n' Sours site near Seven Dials.

Schofield's Bar London opens this November at 1A Earlham Street in Covent Garden, the first address outside Manchester for brothers Joe and Daniel Schofield's cocktail bar, which topped the UK's Top 50 Cocktail Bars in 2024.

The London site takes over the former Chick 'n' Sours unit on the lower ground floor near Seven Dials, Fact Magazines reports. The brothers both worked behind London bars before opening in Manchester, including stints at Coupette and The American Bar at The Savoy.

Schofield's Bar opened in Manchester in 2021 inside the Art Deco Sunlight House and reached No. 59 on the extended World's 50 Best Bars ranking in 2022. It currently sits in the UK's top 10, after a year at No. 1 in 2024.

Ninety per cent of a winning cocktail list is not a compromise, it is a founder's confidence in the work already done.

Ninety per cent of the Manchester list

About 90 per cent of the Manchester cocktail selection carries over to Covent Garden, according to Fact Magazines, built around considered versions of classics rather than novelty drinks. Past menus have featured the Penicillin, the Hawaiian Stone Sour, the Negroni and the Martini alongside original recipes.

Food stays deliberately limited to snacks, cheese and charcuterie, leaving the cocktail list to carry the room. It is the same restraint that built the brothers' reputation in Manchester rather than a London-specific menu written to impress critics on opening week.

The interiors have not been revealed yet, though the Manchester original leans on dark wood, leather seating and a 1930s drinking-hall mood that the brothers have said they want to repeat rather than reinvent for the capital.

A crowded season for London bars

Schofield's lands in a season stacked with London bar openings, including Venus Bar's debut under Brasserie Olivia in Chelsea, and follows a run of Manchester and regional UK bars testing the capital after building reputations elsewhere, a path Edinburgh's Panda & Sons took to its own award without opening a London branch.

No exact opening date or prices have been published. The brothers' own channel for updates is Instagram, where Schofield's has said more will follow as the Covent Garden fit-out nears completion.
