Michelin Guide Italy adds 20 restaurants, four in Sardinia

September's intake puts two Cagliari addresses, a Barbagia osteria and an Arzachena eco-retreat into the selection. The stars wait for Piacenza on 12 November.

The Michelin Guide Italy added 20 restaurants to its selection in September, and the region with the biggest share after Lazio is Sardinia: four new addresses, two of them in Cagliari, against none in Milan.

The list went up on 16 September as part of the guide's monthly updates, in which inspectors publish new finds on the website and app under the label Novità. Entering the list is not a distinction. Stars, Bib Gourmands and Green Stars are kept for the ceremony, which this year takes place on 12 November at the Teatro Municipale in Piacenza.

Sardinia leads the islands in the September intake

Twenty new addresses, no new stars: the Michelin verdict waits for Piacenza.

In Cagliari, Michelin picked Dal Pittore, described as generous, colourful classic cooking built on the quality of its produce, and Aurea Osteria Contemporanea, run by an all-female team that works sea vegetables into its dishes with personality and technique. In Mamoiada, in the Barbagia, Abbamele Osteria reworks Sardinian tradition with what the inspectors call elegant precision. Ulìa, inside an eco-retreat at Arzachena, cooks modern Mediterranean food with lamb as its speciality.

Montenapo Daily read the four as the portrait of a Sardinia increasingly built on identity and territory. Only one of them is on the Costa Smeralda side of the island, where the summer money goes.

Lazio and Campania fill the rest of the Michelin Guide Italy list

Lazio has five new entries: QUID in Rome, with views over St Peter's; Percorsi al Vecchio Ponte, in a former carriage house in Bracciano; Da Aurelio, in a beach hotel in Ladispoli; and two young chefs in the Tuscia, at Dieci in Nepi and Convivial in Tuscania. Campania adds three: Seasons on the beach at Forio d'Ischia, Casa Scarica in Gragnano, born from a cookery school in the town of pasta, and Osteria Arbustico in Paestum.

The rest is spread thin. Tuscany has L'Oca Bonda in Impruneta and Il Pozzo in Sant'Angelo in Colle; Veneto has 1224 Restaurant in Cortina d'Ampezzo and Bella Italia Pesce on Lake Garda. Calabria, Sicily, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Piedmont get one each: Luigi Lepore's Casa Koplè, Trattoria da Pina on Vulcano, family-run since 1958, Chimera di Bacco in Trieste and Akoya, an omakase counter in a Turin art gallery.

The Piacenza ceremony will present the 72nd Italian edition, the third in a row in Emilia-Romagna's Food Valley after Modena and Parma. Until then, anyone travelling down the peninsula from Bologna and its trattorias has twenty more addresses to check, and no stars yet to argue about.
