Lardo opens FERAL, an Italian bar, in Peckham

Nathan Woodhead's second site puts chef Marta Sandini's flatbreads and a Negroni list above a Peckham pub, thirteen years after Lardo opened in London Fields.

Lardo has opened FERAL, an Italian-inspired bar and kitchen above the John the Unicorn pub in Peckham, built around hand-held flatbreads and a Negroni aperitivo list.

Lardo owner Nathan Woodhead runs the new venue; head chef Marta Sandini, who also leads the kitchen at the original Lardo in London Fields, wrote the menu. Local drinks company Gosnells refurbished the pub, and its managing director, Cameron McKenzie-Wilde, joined Woodhead for the opening, reported on 5 November 2026.

Flatbreads built to eat one-handed

A Negroni list and a flatbread you eat with one hand, upstairs from a Peckham pub.

FERAL's menu centres on "Folds," flatbreads meant to be eaten standing at the bar: a cheese-and-pickle version with cacio e pepe, a carbonara fold with guanciale, egg yolk, pecorino and black pepper, and a kebab fold of spiced lamb, pickled onion, cabbage, ranch and hot sauce. Bar snacks include truffle cacio e pepe arancini and a five-spice lasagne skewer.

Larger plates keep the same Italian-leaning register: gnocchi in vodka sauce, cacio e pepe bigoli with an optional helping of guanciale, and spaghetti and meatballs, closing with tiramisu or soft serve.

FERAL leans on its Negroni aperitivo bar as much as its kitchen: the format pairs a short list of bitter, bottled aperitivi with the Folds, so a drink arrives before food does rather than alongside it. Bar snacks are served throughout the venue, not just at tables, extending the stand-and-eat format Woodhead built at the original Lardo.

Lardo's first expansion in thirteen years

Lardo opened in London Fields in 2013 and has kept a single site ever since; FERAL is its first expansion, and its first site south of the river. The restaurant is due to open "later this month," with no exact date confirmed yet.

The move lands in a busy season for first-time London addresses. Across town, Henan cuisine specialist Chi Pot Pot opened in Holborn this week, not long after Bulbul brought micro-regional Indian cooking to the city.

Neither prices nor seating numbers have been published. The kitchen and dining room sit upstairs at the John the Unicorn, with bar snacks served throughout the venue below.
