Tokyo pizzeria cracks the world's top 10 ranking
RistoPizza by Napoli sta ca rises to No. 7 in the 50 Top Pizza World 2026 list, its best finish yet and the highest ever for a restaurant based in Japan.
A Tokyo pizzeria has climbed to seventh place in the 50 Top Pizza World 2026 ranking, its highest finish ever and the best result for a Japanese kitchen.
RistoPizza by Napoli sta ca, tucked inside the Azabudai Hills complex, rose from No. 13 last year. Chef Giuseppe Errichiello runs the kitchen. Anonymous inspectors judged 100 pizzerias worldwide on dough, toppings, service and setting.
Tokyo pizzeria climbs the world rankings
Tokyo now holds two of the world's nine best pizzerias, sushi's spotlight finally shared.
The result makes RistoPizza the highest-ranked Tokyo pizzeria in the event's ten-year history. A second Tokyo pizzeria, The Pizza Bar on 38th, also held a place inside the world's top 10, at No. 9, though it slipped from No. 2 in 2025.
Chef Daniele Cason leads that kitchen, set on the 38th floor of the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo. RistoPizza's signature order is the Don Salvo, a star-shaped pie sold at both the Azabudai Hills site and its older sister restaurant, Pizzeria Peppe – Napoli Sta' Ca.
50 Top Pizza announced the results at Teatro Mercadante in Naples. London's Napoli on the Road, run by Michele Pascarella, took first place, up from fifth in 2025. Una Pizza Napoletana in New York finished second, and Milan's Confine took third.
Japan holds three world spots
Japan places three pizzerias on the full 100-strong list. Outside Tokyo, Pizzeria Braceria Cesari in Nagoya jumped from No. 66 to No. 45 and won the Performance of the Year award for the biggest climb.
The organisers, who send inspectors without warning across five continents, say the field keeps widening. "2026 was a particularly significant year for 50 Top Pizza," the three curators said in a statement, pointing to growth in both entries and professionals involved.
Tokyo already tops the separate 50 Top Pizza Asia-Pacific ranking, with seven restaurants on that regional list published earlier this year. Fans of a good Tokyo pizzeria now have almost as many reasons to book ahead as sushi diners do.
The next world ranking lands in September 2027. Tokyo's two current entries will then defend their spots against a wider field of Asian challengers, from Seoul to Bangkok, in a city where Sushi Kaiseki Okuno just opened inside the Tokyo National Museum.
