Uchi Boston: Hai Hospitality's 11th sushi room lands in 2027

Hai Hospitality's eleventh sushi restaurant takes a 210-seat space in Fort Point, a Boston neighbourhood built on the city's old waterfront trade.

Hai Hospitality will open its eleventh Uchi in Boston's Fort Point neighbourhood in late 2027, the Austin-born sushi group's first restaurant in New England.

The company has signed a lease for 374 Congress Street, a 7,100 square foot space from landlord Eastern Real Estate. It will seat 210 guests: 11 at the sushi counter, 17 at the bar, and 26 in a private dining room that splits in two.

Uchi opened in Austin in 2003 under chef Tyson Cole and now runs ten locations, from Dallas and Houston to Miami and West Hollywood. Boston becomes the eleventh. Hai Hospitality also operates five Uchiko restaurants built around live fire, two cocktail-focused Uchiba bars, the Houston omakase room Oheya, and the three-unit smokehouse concept Loro.

Eleven sushi counters later, Uchi finally crosses into New England.

Why Fort Point, why now

Chief development officer Todd Reppert said the team chose the neighbourhood "because we wanted a location that reflects Boston's rich history," pointing to its past as one of the city's earliest ports and its role as a gateway into New England.

Chief executive Tony Montero framed the opening as part of a wider push north. "We've been looking to grow our presence in the Northeast, and Boston's culture, community and appreciation for diverse culinary perspectives drew our attention," he said.

Austin firm Islyn Studio is designing the interior, the same team behind Uchi's Washington DC dining room and the Uchiko in Miami. Corgan Associates is architect of record. The brief: a room that reads as a seaside antique shop filtered through Boston's colonial-era architecture and Japanese joinery.

A slow build into the Northeast

Uchi's expansion has moved city by city rather than in a rush: Charlotte opened in March 2026, Washington DC in May. Hai Hospitality's own site lists Nashville, Salt Lake City and Newport Beach as further "coming soon" openings alongside Boston, with no dates attached yet.

It is a busy month for sushi expansion generally: this one follows a mold-aged sushi opening in Osaka and Takeshi Araki's new Ao in Singapore, proof the format keeps stretching in opposite directions at once.

The Fort Point site previously housed Pink Taco, one of several ground-floor spaces turning over as landlords chase destination tenants. Hai Hospitality has not named a kitchen leader for Boston; the group typically promotes from within its existing teams to open new rooms. A late-2027 date leaves room to shift, though the group's Charlotte and DC openings both landed roughly on schedule.
