Moutai House Singapore opens as the brand's first lifestyle venue

Kweichow Moutai is turning a 1919 riverside building into three floors of baijiu, from a tasting gallery to a Chinese restaurant and a rooftop bar.

Moutai House Singapore, a three-storey baijiu venue from Kweichow Moutai, is set to open later this month at The Fullerton Waterboat House, the brand's first lifestyle destination anywhere in the world.

The 1919 building at 3 Fullerton Road sits where the Singapore River meets the sea, and most recently housed a Starbucks. Moutai House Singapore takes over all three floors, and the brand is calling it Southeast Asia's first dedicated Moutai destination, a few minutes' walk from the restaurants and bars that fill Singapore's dining scene.

Three floors built around one spirit

Southeast Asia's first dedicated Moutai destination, built to make baijiu an everyday choice rather than a banquet one.

The ground floor holds a Moutai Experiential Centre, a multisensory gallery on the liquor's history and production, open from 10am to 10pm daily. The second floor is Imperial Treasure Moutai House, a Chinese restaurant built around Guizhou and Huaiyang cooking that uses Moutai in several dishes; its menu has not been finalised. Upstairs, the rooftop bar SOHAUS comes from the team behind Nutmeg & Clove, serving 16 cocktails, half of them original Moutai creations and half reworked classics, Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm.

The venue stocks more than 300 labels, from entry-level bottles to rarities the brand values at up to S$1 million. Its exclusive bottling, the Kweichow Moutai Discovery Collection – Singapore, carries Nanyang-style design and a nod to the Vanda Miss Joaquim orchid. A birth-year collection with vintages dating back to 1965, a first for the region, lets buyers order a bottle from the year they were born.

Baijiu's bid for an everyday audience

Moutai has spent decades as a banquet spirit, poured at Chinese New Year dinners and state toasts rather than ordered on a Tuesday night. Moutai House Singapore is built to challenge that, presenting the liquor through a cocktail bar and a tasting gallery rather than only a dining table, and marking the brand's first move into international retail outside mainland China.

Pricing and reservation details for the restaurant and bar have not been released. For a spirit still unfamiliar to most drinkers outside China, the venue's early weeks will show whether a river-side gallery and a rooftop cocktail list can do more to win over a city that already ranks among Singapore's best restaurant tables than a bottle on a shelf.
