Solis opens its first standalone restaurant in Soho
The TATA Eatery team's chicken and steak grill leaves its food-hall site for Kingly Street on 20 October, with a bigger cut of the menu to match.
Solis Soho restaurant opens on Kingly Street on 20 October, the first standalone site for the chicken and steak grill the TATA Eatery team first opened inside Arcade Battersea Power Station in 2023.
The name comes from Juan Díaz de Solís, the 16th-century explorer credited as the first European to reach what is now Uruguay, a reference that sets up the kitchen's actual territory: flavours drawn from Spain, Portugal, Uruguay and Argentina, built around a grill rather than a single national cuisine.
The move from a food-hall counter to a full site changes what the kitchen can put on the table. Solis favourites carry over, including grilled half chicken with smoked aji-aji chilli oil and flat iron steak with the restaurant's own steak sauce, alongside an expanded grill section of larger cuts built for sharing, among them a chateaubriand served with steak sauce, chimichurri and aji picante.
A chateaubriand needs a kitchen that can rest and carve it, not a food-hall counter.
A grill built on Rio Platense flavours
That expansion is the real reason for the move: a food-hall stall has no room for a chateaubriand cut to rest and carve to order, and Soho gives Solis both the kitchen and the covers to sell it. It puts the restaurant in direct competition with a Soho steak scene that already includes Beefbar's Broadwick Street flagship, and with London's small but growing run of South American grills built around live fire.
A room styled like a Latin American bodega
The design leans into that reference point rather than away from it: a long bar counter for drinks and snacks, booths and corner tables, hardwood and stainless-steel detailing, and privacy curtains around some seating. The brief was to balance old-world Rio Platense vernacular against the energy of a working parrilla, rather than build a generic grill room.
The pedestrianised stretch of Kingly Street has filled up with restaurant openings over the past two years, and a grill with a defined identity and a following from its food-hall run gives Solis a stronger starting position than most newcomers land with.
Solis Soho opens on Kingly Street on 20 October, with the Battersea Power Station site continuing to operate alongside it.
